(Top) Shiran (Bletilla striata) is an indigeniuos orchid of Japan, a lady's slipper type (a pouch) but this one is a mutated plant with three slipper-shaped pouches. Interesting! (^_~)...
I agree.. the first one is really very interesting. This is my first time seeing this orchid. BTW, what does your sensei do with all these orchids? Is he a researcher or does he sell these or does he breed them as a hobby? I must say that he has an very intriguing collection.
I asked him just now, well, he said that collecting orchids is his hobby and he has more than 50 plants at home.
Knowing him as a sensei; I think that with our stressful life (for him as as a researcher where he deals with animals mostly), we need some sort of distraction (in a good way) to stay sane...:) and probably, orchids are his motivation...:)
